22 July 2022 West Pittwater Energy Reliability Project Cable installation work in Lovett Bay and Catherine Park – ongoing wet weather delays

As you are aware, Ausgrid is planning to improve the reliability of the local power supply to West Pittwater (McCarrs Creek, Elvina Bay, Lovett Bay and Morning Bay), following extended power outages to the area in previous years.

Ultegra has been doing this work on behalf of Ausgrid. The work involves drilling two boreholes, one from Lovett Bay and one from Catherine Park into Pittwater, installing a High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe inside these boreholes, and then pulling a cable through the boreholes and between Lovett Bay and Catherine Park.

Earlier this year, we installed the cable and temporarily restored the sites at Catherine Park and Lovett Bay, prior to the final connection work, that was planned after Easter. Unfortunately, with the ongoing wet weather and inability to get machinery to site, this connection work has not happened.

Next steps

We are now looking at alternative ways we can do the work and will notify you about timing when we know more. We apologise for the ongoing inconvenience this is causing residents. In the meantime, we are monitoring the sites:

  • Catherine Park, Scotland Island – we have returned to tidy up the area following a severe stormwater event causing a subsidence issue last week. We ask residents to please stay out of the flagged work areas until the final restoration is completed.
  • Carols Wharf, Scotland Island – we will get a crew in to finalise and tidy this area as soon as possible.
  •  Lovett Bay – we are working with Northern Beaches Council to determine how we can move forward with this work. The final restoration of the areas will be carried out in consultation with Northern Beaches Council.

Keeping you informed

Ausgrid will issue email notification updates detailing work locations and dates. Residents can register for these updates to be emailed to them at majorprojects@ausgrid.com.au. For information related to the project visit our website at www.ausgrid.com.au/WestPittwater-reliability-project.

Alternatively, you can contact Ausgrid on 1800 604 765 or majorprojects@ausgrid.com.au.

We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause you and thank you for your continued patience.

Yours sincerely, Renato Villarica

Project Manager
