Primary school children

Children who attend Newport Primary School can take the school ferry every morning and afternoon. The school ferry stops at all major wharves on the island and in the bays. The ferry takes them to Newport Public Wharf for the short walk up the hill to school. For younger children, there are two ‘walkers’ (usually a parent and a paid walker) to take them up to the school in the morning and bring them back down to the wharf in the afternoon. Students need to apply for a pass from Transport for NSW. Newport School also has after-school care available; phone (02) 9979 9874.

Children who attend other schools often arrange car pooling with other parents.

High school children

Those attending Pittwater High School can catch the ferry to Church Point, where they take the bus to Mona Street.
