.#Road works update
Everyone is aware that Pino and his crew have been hard at work this year improving Scotland Island’s roads. To review the progress, SIRA’s Roads, Drainage and Environment subcommittee recently met with NBC personnel, and provided this update.
Works completed include:
- The road section from Catherine Park to Yamba corner on Robertson, including speed bumps/water bars. NBC reports that they have received positive feedback on this work.
- The retaining wall at 20 and 8 Robertson Road.
- The design for Richard Road, but the current budget can only cover items identified previously as storm damaged.
Works in progress include:
- Richard Road works from Cargo hill towards Bell started 16 June and will take approximately 3 months. Works will impact traffic and pedestrian movements between the hours of 7am and 4pm. Traffic management measures will be in place to ensure the works are carried out safely. The work will start from 98 and 96 Richard Road to the slip at 115 Richard Road and will include a wall for the steeper section and subsurface drainage beneath the cement drains. For more information, please see SIRA News 5 June.
Upcoming works include:
- Asphalt to be laid on Robertson and Richard Roads to finalise the current roadworks
- Extension to the drain at the bottom of Harold to prevent erosion (some stabilisation work to embankment has already occurred).
- Work on Thompson Street above the culvert at No. 52, Thompson Street drainage to Pathilda Reserve and area above the intersection of Thompson and Kevin Avenue.
- In 2026, work on drainage and resurfacing will commence from1 to 21 Florence Terrace and a subsurface ag pipe from 23 to 31 Florence.

Registration of vehicles on the island: Saturday, July 12, 9 am – 3 pm at the Fireshed
Once again, Cass Gye, on behalf of SIRA and in conjunction with the SIRFB, has organised a registration day on the island. Everyone with a registered vehicle will receive an email with a link to a Poll giving to book in a time for your vehicle.
Vehicles need to be clean, and if you have anything you might need replacing, like globes, there will be additional cost. Steve Valenti will be on hand to discuss any repairs that you might require.
The cost of the inspection and pink slip for motor vehicles is $65.00 + $20.00 for SIRFB = $85.00, and for motorbikes $55 + $20.00 for SIRFB = $75.00.
A big thank you to Cass for organising this essential service.
