.#Results of subsidised extended hours for Water Taxi
In response to requests from residents for later taxi hours, SIRA subsidised the Pink Water Taxis to extend their hours until 10 pm on Friday and Saturday nights over the last three months (mid-October to mid-January). This was supported by funds raised by the SIRA Recreation Club.
The aim of the trial was to stimulate use of the taxis over spring, summer and the Christmas holidays. If the trial showed the later hours were popular with offshore residents, the later hours would become permanent without the need for a subsidy.
In spite of regular reminders on Facebook and SIRA News about the late-night availability, the trial was unsuccessful.
- 6 evenings were profitable
- 3 broke even
- 19 returned a substantial loss to the taxi.
As a result, Pink Water Taxi have reverted to their regular hours. Please call ahead to check if a later pickup is possible.
