.#New roads, same 20 kph speed limit

The new road upgrades have extended the island’s sealed roads, making them much easier to drive on. These smooth new surfaces make speeding much more tempting because they look like normal roads. But in fact, on our roads pedestrians and cars are equal.

In response to concerns expressed by residents along the new road, SIRAC voted to request speed bumps as a safety measure and as they are standard practice in Shared Zones. After consultation, Northern Beaches Council agreed to install and mark them in line with their engineers’ recommendations and with Australian safety standards. The bars are located to help direct stormwater into the drains and reduce the leaf blockages.

All our roads are Shared Zones

  • Pedestrians have priority – drivers must always give way to walkers
  • The maximum speed limit is 20 kph
  • Vehicles can only stop in parking bays

Help keep our roads safe for pedestrians by driving slowly and carefully.
