.#Emergency Water: SIRA News special

Thank you to the Men’s Shed!

We all know how valuable emergency water lines are to our life offshore. Over time, standpipes and fittings deteriorate, but help is at hand! Members of the Pittwater and Offshore Men’s Shed (POSMS) have undertaken vital work assembling replacement standpipes and fittings for our waterline. This community work is important as it reduces SIRA’s costs to maintain the waterline. Thanks POSMS!

Attention landlords and real estate agents – we need your help

Please remember you are responsible for informing renters about the operation of their water tanks and water pumps before they book emergency water. It isn’t the role of the water monitor to provide this advice or enter properties to solve and they will have to refer renters back to their landlord or agent.

Visibility and access to the emergency waterline is important

Did you know that visibility and access to the emergency waterline is a health and safety requirement that allows island residents access to non-potable emergency water?

Please remember that your waterline must be above ground and visible (unless it is encased in a conduit and located beneath steps or a driveway). Bushes planted over the waterline may be cut back or dislodged to ensure the waterline remains visible. You can assist by avoiding planting too near the waterline and avoiding dumping green waste or other items over it.

Moving the waterline is a no-no!

Builders and residents are not to move the waterline without first contacting the water manager at water@sira.org.au and explaining what needs to be moved, why and when. The water manager will probably need to attend the site and approve any alteration to the waterline.
