Scotland Island Horticulturalist and kids' soccer coach extraordinaire Chris Olsen recently joined a group of twenty passengers who boarded the Russian vessel Akademjk Shokalskiy and headed on down to Commonwealth Bay in Antarctica. Here they took part in a two million dollar restoration job on the historic huts of Sir Douglas Mawson. Mawson, a geologist, spent nearly two years in the Antarctic with eighteen others from 1912. Chris was invited to speak to students among peninsular schools about his adventures. He also put on a splendid slide night for the residents of Scotland Island and other visitors. |
