Editorial:

Hola. Estoy gozando de mi día de fiesta en España. ¡Pero Pittwater mira mejor toda la hora! Having got that out of the way, we shall return to our normal English. It is really pleasing to have so many of you contributing to the newsletter. Clearly our expansion to include all of the Western side of Pittwater and Scotland Island is taking us to bigger things. Our subscription level has grown dramatically and our influence is extending. Tomorrow the world....
I will be returning to Australia in October and will be better able to cope with the usual keyboard. Producing this in a cafe in the remote country of Southern Spain has been quite an experience!

Is Your Land Prone to Bushfire?

Check out Pittwater Council’s interim map at www.pittwaterlga.com.au under ‘B’ for bushfire. The map was prepared in response to new State Government legislation of 5 August 2002 - the Rural Fires and Environmental Assessment Legislation Amendment Act 2002. If your land is bushfire prone, then any proposed development on your property must comply with Planning for Bushfire Protection 2001, a document produced by PlanningNSW and the Rural Fire Service. Planning for Bushfire Protection 2001 is available from PlanningNSW or can be downloaded from the Rural Fire Service website at www.bushfire.nsw.gov.au

Moving - Free to good home!

As many of you know the Vick's have their house up for sale. What a lot of stuff there is to move. I have some old analog recording gear that I really don't need any more. The digital world has taken over, but perhaps there is an enthusiast out there who could use my TEAC four track reel to reel recorder. I've got a big Tascam mixing desk as well and a two track reel to reel for mixing down. I'd like to find a good home for them. They are free of course! If you are interested please call me 9979 7210 or 0414 496 972.

Hospital News - Looking Good!
In response to today’s announcement by Northern Sydney Health, Pittwater Mayor Patricia Giles commented: “We welcome this announcement by Northern Sydney Health which states categorically that there will be two hospitals on the northern beaches, and that Mona Vale Hospital will remain on its current site.

“We also welcome the announcement within the news release by Northern Sydney Health and within the personal letter sent to me by Dr Christley, CEO of Northern Sydney Health, that they will be redeveloping Manly Hospital into a modern health facility for the community at the southern end of the peninsula, and enhancing Mona Vale Hospital. Dr Christley has stated unequivocably that Mona Vale and Manly Hospitals will not be closed.

Pittwater Mayor Returned to Office

PITTWATER MAYOR RETURNED FOR RECORD SIXTH TERM
In what is a record for Pittwater Council, Councillor Patricia Giles was returned as Mayor last night for a sixth consecutive term.
Cr Giles first served as Mayor in 1997/98, taking over from Cr Robert Dunn, who had served four non-consecutive terms as Mayor.
Cr Bob Dunbar was elected Deputy Mayor for the first time.
Chairpersons of Pittwater's Committees remain the same:
Environment & Planning - Cr Bob Grace
Urban & Environmental Assets - Cr Shirley Phelps
Corporate Services - Cr Alex McTaggart
Community Services - Cr Vicki Dimond
Legal - Cr Stuart Burley
Mayor Giles said: "I am just thrilled to lead such a great Council which is working as a team to accomplish great things for Pittwater, not just for us but also for future generations. In our first 10 years we have achieved so much, but we will go on to bigger and better things because we intend to continue working with our residents and really listening to our community. We have great plans for the future – the recently opened Avalon Recreation Centre is a wonderful community asset, and the completion of the redevelopment of Village Park, Mona Vale will create a facility of which everyone can be proud.”
