Sydney is in the grip of an excitement never before felt in this city of ours. Tens of thousands of visitors, many of whom have found their way to our beautiful island are to be seen throughout the metropolis. I spotted some tourists from the USA on the ferry the other day who were over the moon with the beauty of our part of the world. And where did we get this great weather! Let us hope the fine weather stays till next Sunday and then bucket down with rain to fill all our tanks. The Sydney Olympics on the net are at this address (US) or this address (Channel 7 Australia) Your contribution is always welcome - perhaps you are having a deck sale, or lost a valuable. Lost and Found (a true story)A young couple, from Scotland Island, paused for a drink and a chat about 5pm on a recent Friday evening. They had bought a few of bags of shopping and put them down near the Church Point shop. Meanwhile a family arrived and placed their bags close to the couple's bags, as they did the usual collecting mail, purchase of nick-nacks etc. When one parent arrived with the boat and the other was parking the car, the children carried the shopping to the boat. Mistaking the couple's bags for their own. A short while later the couple noticed the bags were gone. The shopping wasn't the worry, but a wallet was left in one of the bags. Fortunately the family arrived home and realised the mistake. The family members didn't recognise the wallet owner's name, but they looked it up in the Scotland Island Directory and yes, everything was sorted out. The couple were grateful also for the shopping was carried up the hill for them!‘Roads and Drainage’ Marathon EventThe survey documents put 18 questions about the pedestrian and vehicular environment of the Island. These questions were supported by a report from the Scotland Island Roads Paths and Drainage Task Force that gave background information and presented various viewpoints about the issues. In all there was 22 pages of background material. The survey was constructed so as to compel respondents to read and consider the background material prior to responding to questions. The FULL results report can be found by clicking here (you will need to be connected to the Internet) Grahame Cover has done a marvellous job in compiling this Survey Report from all the data received back from SI residents and property owners. The Report was first put to Council (Mayor Patricia Giles, Councillors Bob Dunbar and Stuart Burley, plus Angus Gordon, General Manager and Chris Hunt, responsible for all infrastructure throughout Pittwater). All acknowledged the quality of the work that had clearly been done in the lead up to this point. Come along to the
General Meeting on: SATURDAY
OCTOBER 21 AT 2.00PM IN THE COMMUNITY HALL We have already put together a Roads and Drainage Workgroup comprising Geoff Page, Steve Crosby, Sharon Kinnison, Ron Barrelle, Graham Cover, Brian Cross and Bill Gye. This group met 4.9.00 to move on from the findings to the actions needed to address the issues. General Manager Angus Gordon has already been briefed on the results of this meeting which require a close working relationship with key Council people on an ongoing basis. We
are very pleased to say that Angus Gordon will be present at this
meeting, along with the members of the Workgroup. If any SI resident or property owner would like to contribute to this vitally important project, then please make contact with any one of the Workgroup members.
Pittwater Vision WorkshopOn Saturday 12th August,
around 100 people gathered at the Mona Vale Conference Centre to spend
the day grappling with how we wanted to see the Pittwater area 18-20
years from now. Follow Up: All participants received an Output Document of all the ideas, comments, and contributions. We have already met with Angus Gordon, General Manager Pittwater Council, to discuss ways that we believe can assist to obtain maximum value from Council’s excellent initiative. Angus indicated how, already, Council is adopting some of the very good suggestions generated by the participants in the Vision Forum. The Scotland Island Players are in full swing with rehearsals for William Shakespeare's "As you like it", planned for production on November 10th and 11th 2000. This 'gender-confusion' comedy will appeal to all residents and you are invited to get a party of friends together to enjoy an inexpensive and fun evening. Although no ticketing arrangements have yet been made, you may like to reserve one of the days to attend what will be an outstanding production. Some new faces join those you have come to expect as part of the players line-up! Want to know more about this great play? Click here The Scotland Island Fair 2000 will be held on Sunday, 26 November 2000, in Catherine Park, Scotland Island. As always, there will be lots of stalls, food, artwork, music, face painting, kids games, a jumping castle and lots more. It's a fabulous day out for everyone and a great chance to get that Christmas shopping finished early. The Fair takes quite a bit of organising, so if you think you could lend a hand in the lead up to the Fair, or just for a few hours on the day we'd love to hear from you. Just call Jenny on 02 9979 3777 or email jabawoc@bigpond.com. We're all volunteers raising money for our community - funds from the previous two Fairs have gone towards framing the wall hanging in the Community Hall. If you're interested in holding a stall, please call Lisa on 02 9997 5466 to book your place. A complete set of all past electronic newsletters can be found and read by clicking here |
