Church Point Criminals

A Special message from the Broken Bay Water Police

Many cars were broken into on the night of October 3rd and the Police advise another 7 or so were also hit. The Police recommendations are:

  • Leave nothing valuable in your car or boat.
  • Leave glove boxes, centre consoles and ashtrays empty and open.
  • Park as near as possible to a well lit area.
  • Report any suspicious persons in the carpark, marinas or wharves to the police straight away.
  • Bolt on or chain up outboard motors. Fit lockable cabinets
  • Put your name on everything. If your name can't be removed from the property or boat, it's usually not worth stealing

Please help us catch the offenders.

Important Phone Numbers:

  • Broken Bay Water Police: (02) 9979-4044
  • Mobile: 0412-162-093

Registering your PetWoof!

The Companion Animal Act requires all dogs and cats in NSW to be identified (micro chipped) prior to sale/change of ownership and before the dog/cat is 12 weeks old. The dog/cat must then be registered with the Companion Animal Register before 6 months old (this is a once only lifetime registration)

If your pet is not micro chipped, arrange with your veterinarian to micro chip the dog/cat. Your vet will then give you the pet owner's copy of the Companion Animal Identification/Registration form. This is to be lodged when registering your pet.

Lifetime Registration Fees:

Desexed dog/cat  $35.00
Desexed dog/cat owned by pensioner $15.00
Dog/cat kept for breeding purposes by a regd. breeder $35.00
Trained assistance animals free
Dog/Cat not desexed $100.00

Emergency Island Water Supply

On Monday 23rd October, Greg Roberts and Shirley Page attended the Council meeting when the proposal for SI Emergency Water, prepared by consultants Connell Wagner, was presented and accepted by Council. The request by Council and Sydney Water is for a significant upgrade to the water distribution infrastructure on SI to bring it up to acceptable health standards. Add to this the fact that, as we all know, the system leaves a lot to be desired.  The water distributors are constantly challenged with breaking and leaking pipes, pressure from many residents urgently needing water in dry times where there is a long wait, discrepancies in water provided and received, refusals to pay, delays in payment, up at all times of the night to monitor, turn off and on, and finally the knowledge that there are a few people who cunningly steal water by turning their taps on a little during the night.  Who would want to be a distributor! So, major changes will happen, both short and long term, which will involve SI residents in cost and labour. Shortly, a SI printed Newsletter, dedicated to Water, will address all the issues, followed by one or more General Meetings. Along with Roads and Drainage, Emergency Water is becoming a major issue for the Island.

PARALYMPIC TORCH RELAY

A report by Greg Roberts.

Monday 16th October was the day when the Paralympic torch left Patonga to be brought by the Palm Beach Ferries’ ‘Spirit’ down Pittwater, around SI and back to Palm Beach Wharf, from where it continued its journey. The whole exercise was organised very well by Pittwater Councillors and staff, with special congratulations going to Councillor Stu Burley. Louise and I accompanied Dermer and Marilyn Bennett in their superb motor launch ‘Apollo’, arriving at Patonga around midday.  ‘Apollo’ was pretty well the only boat at this stage, that is if you don’t count Sydney Rescue, Coastal Patrol, 3 Fire Boats (all with water pumps going), the large and very new (and not a day too soon!) 50’ish foot Police boat, 2 (or was it 3 or 4?) police jet skis buzzing around, Waterways, 2 very large and serious Tactical Response Group inflatables (checking out whether Patonga or Palm Beach wharves had had bombs attached) and of course the ‘Spirit’, carrying the Torch as well as Mayor Patricia Giles and guests. By the time the procession reached SI, there must have been an additional 25-35 boats of all shapes and sizes gathered around. It was a great event!

Scotland Island Fair

The Scotland Island Fair 2000 will be held on Sunday, 26 November 2000, in Catherine Park, Scotland Island. As always, there will be lots of stalls, food, artwork, music, face painting, kids games, a jumping castle and lots more. It's a fabulous day out for everyone and a great chance to get that Christmas shopping finished early.

The Fair takes quite a bit of organising, so if you think you could lend a hand in the lead up to the Fair, or just for a few hours on the day we'd love to hear from you. Just call Jenny on (02) 9979 3777 or email jabawoc@bigpond.com. We're all volunteers raising money for our community - funds from the previous two Fairs have gone towards framing the wall hanging in the Community Hall.

If you're interested in holding a stall, please call Lisa on (02) 9997 5466 to book your place.

ROADS AND DRAINAGE SURVEY REPORT

The General Meeting was held on Sat 21st Oct as advised, following the mailing of the R&D Survey results to all Property Owners and residents. Mr Chris Hunt attended representing Council. Grahame Cover gave a brief intro/summary of the results and then handled questions regarding the Report results. Other questions were raised regarding key issues (eg funding and the ramp) and Greg Roberts signalled that these issues were indeed very important and would be handled by the Workgroup, plus further General Meetings. Tim Byrne joined the Workgroup. The offer is on the table for anyone who can, and would, like to contribute to the very substantial challenge that lies ahead.  Ring Greg Roberts, facilitator of the Workgroup on 99799599.
