Editorial:The terrible events of October 12th bring home to us once again how privileged we are to live in such a secure area of Sydney. Safe from the ravages of man's inhumanity, free to move about our domain without fear and confident for the safety of our children. On a darker note, the extremely dry conditions do put us at great risk of bushfire and the possible loss of life and home through natural causes. We cannot be too vigilant. Look to your home again using the guidelines provided by our rural bush fire services. On another matter - this bumper issue is due entirely to the excellent response from residents of the offshore communities of Pittwater. It seems that you really do realise the potential of our newsletter - please keep up the good work! In this Issue:

Hi fellow
Islanders,
Looks like we
are really going this time! We found good homes for the recording
equipment and now we want to know if anybody wants a piano. It's an old
but good quality upright. It needs a
tune. It's free to anyone who has enough strong friends to move it out and
get it to their place. Be warned, it's a very solid (read heavy) piano.

"Island Thinking" is meeting again on Saturday Nov 2nd in Tracy and Paul Smith's Boathouse. The presentation will be by Bill Gye on Lateral Thinking and Perception. From Bill..."What is presented on the day may evolve somewhat after this abstract is released. At this point I intend to make it an interactive session, where we will experiment with some lateral thinking processes, puzzles and perceptual and attentional exercises. Hopefully there will be time to discuss the implications of the results of this self experimentation (I call it subjective experimental psychology) on our everyday perception and thinking about reality." For more information please ring Jenni Cover on 9997 8724. Scotland Island Fair THIS month!
The Council has finished the survey of the submarine pipeline from Church Point to Bells Wharf and the meters and non-return valves at Church Point car park. Some minor repairs were effected and Sydney Water is once again happy to continue the service. Rod Smith and Mark Morgan have The Plan in final draft, to deploy new, larger-bore poly-pipe around the Island. Negotiations for the transfer of ownership of the submarine pipeline from Pittwater Council to SIRA have started. New pipes will improve the flow rate and the overall reliability of the water distribution system but will not solve the problem completely. It will still be what its always been ? an Emergency Water System. As the drought continues, the waiting lists for Emergency Water are growing; currently 7 weeks for Line 1. Don't wait until you run out of water before you book in! Catherine Park Stormwater Grant With great organisation by Sharon Kinnison and her
Catherine Park group, the work is nearing completion......(Sharon - do you
want to add a few words by Friday 12 noon for Paul?? - please send direct)
