Newsletter for Offshore Residents of Pittwater, Australia   Volume 4, Issue 30; July 2002

Editorial:

This is the first edition under the new banner of Pittwater Offshore. Apart from the colour changes, you will see the familiar newsletter as it has been these last 2.5 years. If you live on the Western shores or at Mackeral Beach or perhaps on your boat, please consider contributing. Clicking on the banner at the top of every edition will send the editor an email in which you can have your say. Offering a new service? Something to sell? An upcoming event? A little gossip maybe? It will be published in the next edition (so long as it is within publishing guidelines!)  - Regards Paul

In this Issue:

The SI Community Vehicle - where is it?

At present the Council has lent us a Utility for use on the island as an interim measure whilst we negotiate for a new vehicle to replace the old Suzuki which left the Island in December 2001. At present the vehicle is available from Friday morning until 9pm Monday night, and by negotiation at other times. Users are advised to provide as much notice as possible to ensure that the vehicle is available.

We hope to go to seven days when the new vehicle arrives and dependent on drivers.

We need drivers:

The community Vehicle operates under a Department of Transport Grant which funds the vehicle lease and petrol. To keep this essential service running we need the support of the community. If you can spare one day a month or more often, please contact Harriet Stacey on 9979 2809.

Later Update

The community vehicle will be available 6 days a week, from Friday afternoon until 9 pm Wednesday night every week. It is also available by arrangement on Thursdays and Friday mornings by calling the coordinator (Harriet Stacey) on 99792809.

SIRA would like to thank those who have offered their services as drivers and would like to encourage more drivers to volunteer on a casual basis to fill in when our main drivers are unavailable. One day a month would be all that is required

Mona Vale Hospital Update

For the latest update on the Mona Vale Hospital situation, go to the Website www.savemonavalehospital.com and look for the latest Newsletter on the 2 Hospitals policy, plus the very recent piece of research that the Committee commissioned - 'Community Attitudes towards Health Service Changes on the Northern Beaches by the Hunter Valley Research Foundation. Remember, it's important to voice your concerns on behalf of the Pittwater Offshore Community, so write letters to Minister Craig Knowles, Bob Carr, our own member John Brogden (whose policy supports the 2 hospitals).

Pittwater Offshore Directory

The Directory is getting very close to printing now. Just a few ads. to tidy up, and the layout for 2 or so pages , and we'll be ready to go to print.

Fire Brigade and Scotland Island Players

Are you connected with either of these organisations? What a pity that someone from these two very important island communities doesn't make use of this newsletter to tell all of us what is going on. Perhaps you might like to ask one of the office bearers to get in touch with the editor of this esteemed newsletter by sending a regular email. Thanks!

"There ought to be but one large art warehouse in the world, to which the artist could carry his art-works" Beethoven in 1801. Now there is! For free you can download thousands of works from famous composers for your own use. Print the sheet music, play it to us in the community hall. This is a wonderful resource to be enjoyed by all

These cool winter nights are perfect for a little game action in front of the computer. Here is a wonderful FREE game about dinosaurs. The game involves searching photographs of locations around the world for dinosaur remains and then correctly identifying your finds
If you spend way too much time in front of the computer (not me, says the editor) this is for you. The purpose of the program is to prompt (and enforce) a computer user to take periodic breaks, thereby reducing and helping to prevent repetitive patterns of computer use. You will be encouraged to stand up, move around and even exercise during your breaks. Perhaps scrape the tinnie!
