Editorial:

Wanted: a bit more input from you, the reader. It is a truism to say that a newsletter is only as good as the contributions. Nevertheless I am struggling a tad to keep fresh news in your inbox. If you are having an island function (theatre, deck sale, classes, music, boat for sale, service to offer, please feel free to send me the copy and it will be in the next newsletter. My email address is at the bottom of this edition. Thanks!  (p.s: This edition is a little early due to the number of upcoming events)    - Paul (Ed)

PITTWATER CLASSIC SWIM for Sailability
Pittwater Sailability is an organisation dedicated to making sailing experiences available to children and adults with disabilities in the Pittwater area. Imagine the joy that sailing brings people who are physically restricted in their everyday lives! Pittwater Sailability has a small fleet based in Bayview which is used to take people with disabilities sailing on the weekends. A second fleet is based at Newport, and it is used to train adult sailors for competitive sailing. A number of the Newport Team were involved in Sydney’s Paralympics and are now training for Athens 2004.

PITTWATER CLASSIC SWIM

The Pittwater Classic Swim is being run to raise money to help send Pittwater Sailability’s team to the Paralympics in Athens 2004. It is a swim across Pittwater from Mackerel Beach to Snapperman Beach (next to the Ferry Wharf) – about 1.5km. We are holding the swim early in the morning on Sunday Feb 24th 2002. It will be a patrolled swim. The entry fee is $20 per person, and that includes a fare on the ferry to get across to Mackerel Beach for the start. The swim takes about 30 minutes in fair weather and about 40 minutes if it’s windy. We’re hoping for a sunny day and about 200 swimmers altogether, so that about $4,000 can be raised for Pittwater Sailability’s Athens 2004 Paralympics Campaign. Swimmers are to register next to the Palm Beach Wharf from 7:30am. Registrations will be accepted up until 8:15am.  Please note that the ferry leaves Palm Beach Wharf at 8.30 a.m. precisely, for the start at Mackerel Beach.
