Scotland Island & Offshore Children’s Services Association

Information Sheet January 2006

SIOCS is a community-managed association that provides services for offshore children aged 0 – 12 years.

These services include: -
1. For 0 – 2 Year Olds
i. A Mum’s group, which meets once a fortnight in houses on the island. Contact Lizzie Hazelwood on 9997 8731 for more details.
ii. A playgroup in the island Kindie, which runs once a fortnight. Contact Julie Rodgers on 9979 5135.
iii. Licensed Family Day Care centres are not operating in the offshore area yet, but parents interested in either operating or sending their children to these centres should contact Rebecca Latham on 9999 4794.

2. For 2 – 5 Year Olds
i. A Long Day Care service, which operates at the island Kindie from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for 48 weeks of the year, closing down during the Xmas period only. Contact the Director on 9979 7856.
ii. It is anticipated that an after school hours service will be available for this age group later in the year, contact Brigitte Mahler-Mills on 9997 2307 for more information.

3. For Primary School Aged Children
i. We have many talent artists, writers, sportspeople, craftsmen / women and so on in this area. During the school holidays SIOCS coordinates workshops and classes in activities ranging from yoga to printmaking, creative writing, self-esteem and music. For more details on the forthcoming programmes contact Lisa MacDonald on 9979 2627 or Camille Blyth on 9999 5598.
ii. It is anticipated that an after school hours service will be available for this age group later in the year, with classes and activities run by local teachers including art, craft, movement and music. Contact Brigitte Mahler-Mills on 9997 2307 for more information.
